Why get a Medical Marijuana ID Card (MMIC)? All patients with a valid Medical Marijuana ID Card issued by their County Department of Public Health are exempt from paying the sales and use tax, per Proposition 64.

The average cost of a MMIC is currently $120.00. However, the maximum cost of a MMIC is now $100, or $50 for Medi-Cal patients. For patients who spend $100 or more per month, or Medi-Cal patients who spend $50 or more per month, the tax savings on the MMIC are financially advantageous. However, for patients who spend less than $100 per month, or Medi-Cal patients who spend less than $50 per month, there is no financial incentive to obtain the MMIC.

*Medical Cannabis ID card (MMIC). The Medical Marijuana Identification Card is issued by a California State/County Health Department. Cards issued by private companies will not be allowed, do not qualify for tax exemptions, nor should Physician Recommendations alone be sufficient. Please see Title 16, division 42, chapter 1, Article 1, 5000(j) and California Health and Safety code section 11362.71 for proof of this requirement and additional details.
