![]() Dear Green Cross Members, Friends & Family, Happy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day from all of us here at The Green Cross! This important holiday celebrates the life and legacy of a man who brought hope and healing to our country. We commemorate the eternal values he taught us through his example - the values of courage, truth, justice, empathy, dignity, humility and service that defined his character. May we all learn from his example and help pave the way for a better and brighter future. As of this past Saturday, we extended our hours of operation going forward. The Green Cross is now open from 8 am to 10 pm daily to better serve our members and community. In our last member email, we announced that The Green Cross is officially licensed by the state to sell cannabis for both medical and adult use. First and foremost, we want to take a moment to thank our amazing supporters, community stakeholders, staff and members old and new for helping us reach this important milestone. We are extremely proud to be the first San Francisco dispensary to ring up a sale for adult use. The Green Cross was also the first dispensary to receive a license to operate as a Medical Cannabis Dispensary back in 2007, and now we're one of the first dispensaries in San Francisco to receive a new medical and adult use license. Over the years, we've experienced many firsts, but none as exciting and rewarding as this one. All of our hard work is coming to fruition and we are delighted to be a part of San Francisco's unique and vibrant past and future. Kevin Reed, Founder & President of The Green Cross, cutting the ribbon for San Francisco’s historic first-ever adult-use cannabis sales! Day one of adult use sales was a huge success and we're so proud to be the first San Francisco cannabis business to open its doors on January 6, 2018! Adult Use and Medical Cannabis Membership Requirements![]() As of January 6, The Green Cross is licensed to sell cannabis for both medical and adult use. Going forward, you will no longer need a physician's recommendation and/or Medical Marijuana Identification Card (MMIC) to purchase products from our organization. In order to access our products and services for adult use, you are required to join our organization as a member, meet the 21+ age requirement, and present valid government-issued identification. In order to qualify as a medical cannabis patient, you still need a valid doctor's recommendation and/or a state-issued MMIC in order to access our services. There are advantages to acquiring a MMIC, so please continue reading for more details. All patients with a valid MMIC issued by their County Department of Public Health are exempt from paying the 8.5% sales and use tax, per Proposition 64. Our state has never required patients to hold a state MMIC and you are not required to obtain one. Patients with valid and up-to-date physician recommendations continue to have access to the high quality medication and service you've come to expect from The Green Cross. Without the MMIC, however, patients will continue to be charged sales and use taxes. We understand the economy is tight and every penny counts! That being said, we want to be sure you know about opportunities to save money in 2018. The average cost of a MMIC is currently $120.00. However, the maximum cost of a MMIC is now $100, or $50 for Medi-Cal patients. For patients who spend $100 or more per month, or Medi-Cal patients who spend $50 or more per month, the tax savings on the MMIC are financially advantageous. However, for patients who spend less than $100 per month, or Medi-Cal patients who spend less than $50 per month, there is no financial incentive to obtain the MMIC. Please note that the MMIC is different than the card issued by your doctor's office. To obtain the MMIC you need to visit your county Department of Public Health after you obtain a valid physician recommendation, fill out an application, pay the fee, and provide supporting documentation (recommendation and state ID). The Department will not keep any identifying information, and the only information transmitted to the state Medical Marijuana Program is your photo, your card type (e.g. patient or caregiver) and the expiration date of the card. This information is also contained on the MMIC. Each DPH office has slightly different procedures, fees and hours of operation. For information on procedures elsewhere, check out your county DPH website. For general information about the California Medical Marijuana ID Program, including FAQs, please visit: CDPH.CA.Gov. New Exit Bag Requirements on All Cannabis Product PurchasesEffective January 6, 2018, all purchases made by members for medical and adult use must be placed inside a child-resistant bag. Upon your next visit to The Green Cross, you are required to purchase this bag for $1. However, exit bags are reusable and we welcome and encourage all members to bring your own on each visit.
