Read more » Virginia Legislature approves cannabis retail sales billsForbes.com - Both chambers of Virginia’s state legislature on Wednesday passed identical bills to legalize recreational cannabis sales in the state, sending the measures to the desk of Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin. The Virginia House of Delegates voted 53-44 to approve SB 970, a bill approved by the state Senate late last month. In the Senate, meanwhile, lawmakers passed the House version of the bill (HB 2485) by a vote of 21-18, according to a report from online cannabis news outlet Marijuana Moment. If signed into law, the bills would legalize the purchase of up to 2.5 ounces of recreational cannabis by adults aged 21 and older. Sales of recreational marijuana would begin no sooner than May 1, 2026, although regulators could begin issuing the required licenses to sell recreational marijuana as soon as September of this year.
