New Hours of Operation at The Green Cross: 8 AM – 7 PM Daily

5/31/2020

Dear Green Cross Members, Friends & Family,

As of yesterday evening, Mayor Breed has implemented a curfew for all San Francisco residents from 8 PM to 5 AM daily. In an effort to adhere to this new curfew, and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our staff, members, and entire community, The Green Cross has decided to reduce our hours to 8 AM to 7 PM daily, 7 days a week. This change in hours is effective immediately and will remain in place for the foreseeable future.

As soon as it's safe and prudent to do so, we will resume our normal hours of operation again. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time of unrest and uncertainty. Please take care of one another and stay safe out there.

Warmest regards,
Kevin Reed

New Extended Hours at The Green Cross!

5/13/2020

Dear Green Cross Members, Friends & Family,

We are very excited to announce that starting today, The Green Cross will return to our normal hours of operation, 8 am to 10 pm, 7 days a week! We appreciate your patience with us as we've made necessary adjustments to our business and hours during the COVID-19 health crisis. In an effort to expand our services to our community now that extensive protocols are in place, we have made the decision to readjust our hours accordingly. Thank you for your patience and understanding with us during this time of transition.

We have many worthwhile specials, price drops and new products available for purchase, so please keep reading for more details. In addition, we've clarified our policy surrounding face covering requirements, so please review it before your next visit. We hope you're all continuing to stay safe and healthy during these challenging and uncertain times.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health, in coordination with other Bay Area health departments, now requires residents and workers to wear face coverings at essential businesses and in public facilities, on transit, and while performing essential work. In order to enter an essential business, like The Green Cross, residents must cover their nose and mouth with a face covering, such as a bandana, scarf, towel, or other piece of cloth or fabric.

N95 face masks with valves do not provide adequate protection and are not approved by SFDPH. Masks with valves are designed to allow the wearer to breathe easier and protect them from the spread of pathogens. The valves remain closed when the wearer inhales but opens up when they exhale. When a mask with a valve is worn, it only protects the wearer and does not protect those around them. As a result of this, we cannot allow members to wear N95 masks with valves inside The Green Cross. As a courtesy to our valued members, we are offering one complimentary face covering to each member if your face covering does not meet the above criteria.

For more information on San Francisco face covering requirements, please visit the following SF.gov link: Masks and face coverings for the coronavirus outbreak.

Staying home is still the best protection
  • Covering your face does not change the shelter in place order, which requires people to stay home as much as possible and maintain physical distancing by staying 6 feet from others.
  • Cloth face coverings, when combined with physical distancing and hand washing, may prevent transmission of coronavirus by reducing respiratory droplets.
Why this is a requirement: face coverings protect others
As COVID-19 can be spread by people who are not showing symptoms, cloth face coverings, when combined with physical distancing and hand washing, may prevent the spread of the virus to others when going outside for essential activities. Cloth face coverings must cover your nose and mouth.

Covering your face is about helping others. By covering your face when you go out for essential reasons, you are being a good neighbor and community member.

Certain groups are not required to wear a face covering
  • Children under 2 years old must not wear a face covering. They may suffocate.
  • Children 3 to 12 years old are not required to wear a face covering. If they do, they should be supervised by an adult. Supervision may look different based on the age and maturity of the child. For some children, having a discussion may be enough.  For younger children, parents and caretakers should be present during use by the child. Parents and caregivers should use their judgement.
  • Health and safety reasons
  • If you have documentation showing a medical professional has told you not to wear a face covering, you do not have to wear one.
  • Anyone who has trouble breathing or is not able to take off a face covering without help, should not wear one. If you have a chronic condition, you should get documentation from a medical professional.
  • If you will create a safety hazard at work (under established health and safety guidelines) by wearing a face covering, you do not have to wear one.
  • If you have a physical disability that prevents you from wearing a face covering, you do not have to wear one.
  • If you are deaf and use facial and mouth movements as part of communication, you can remove your mask while signing.

Thank you in advance for understanding and adhering to this policy going forward!

Coronavirus spells doom for federal cannabis legislation

Picture
Rep. Earl Blumenauer's (D-Ore.) road map for the current Congress ended in full legalization by the end of 2019.

But instead of a complete overhaul of the nation's cannabis laws in the 116th Congress, one chamber passed one cannabis bill on one issue. Impeachment killed the remaining momentum, and the coronavirus then changed the course entirely, torching the chances of any standalone cannabis legislation passing Congress this year. Read more »

Cannabis may show promise in treating COVID-19. Here's what it means for the pot industry

Picture
A recent study from the University of Lethbridge shows that certain strains of cannabis can inhibit viral activity caused by the novel coronavirus. Do the results point to a potential treatment for the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and, if so, will it act as a catalyst for the cannabis industry?

Like all other respiratory viruses, coronavirus is transmitted through tiny respiratory droplets ejected during a cough or sneeze from an infected patient. After a healthy patient inhales such droplets, the virus facilitates its entry into its new host by attaching itself to cellular receptors in lung, intestinal, and oral tissues via angiotensin-converting enzyme II (ACE2). Recently, the scientific community has reached a consensus that ACE2 is the main cellular receptor responsible for COVID-19's entry into host cells. Read more »

Banking for marijuana companies included in Congress’ new $3 trillion coronavirus stimulus bill

Cannabis industry advocates applauded House Democrats on Tuesday after a new $3 trillion federal stimulus bill included provisions to allow marijuana businesses access to banking.

Introduced by House speaker Nancy Pelosi, the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act includes wide-ranging goals to address the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, from offering financial assistance to state and local governments to forgiving student loan debt. Read more »

There is no difference between the effects of indica and sativa marijuana strains, scientists say

Picture
When you enter a marijuana dispensary you're met with sterile white walls and glass-encased counters that hold marijuana flower, vape pens, chocolates, gummies, and other psychoactive goodies.

Whether a dispensary has a menu hung on its wall, a digital list patrons can scroll through on an iPad, or a physical paper booklet they can flip through, these informational materials, at the very least, classify each marijuana strain as an "indica," "sativa," or "hybrid," and may also include information on the effects and THC concentrations of the Sour Diesel strain or the Blue Dream strain, for example. Read more »

Have a wonderful rest of your week and we look forward to seeing you at The Green Cross again soon!
