Many Exciting New Products Now Available at The Green Cross!

2/15/2018

Dear Green Cross Members, Friends & Family,

Happy February everyone! We have many exciting new products hitting the shelves at The Green Cross, so keep reading for more details. We are also overjoyed to announce the return of our favorite Girl Scout this coming Saturday! This is a perfect opportunity to stock up on your favorite Girl Scout Cookies while supporting a great cause.

Effective immediately, all cannabis sales must be completed by 10 pm and no later. We are now required by law to adhere to a strict cut-off time of 10 pm each day, so please ensure you arrive at The Green Cross with ample time to peruse our wide selection of products, consult our knowledgeable budtenders, and make your final purchases. Unfortunately, we can no longer make exceptions for late arrivals. Thank you in advance for understanding and we hope to see you at The Green Cross soon!

Our favorite Girl Scout is coming back to The Green Cross this Saturday from 2:30 to 5 pm! Danielle is the original industrious Girl Scout made world-famous by selling a record number of cookies outside The Green Cross. She has been visiting us annually for the past 5 years and we're extremely excited to welcome her back.

Unfortunately, this year will be her last, so let's help her go out with a bang! There have been many copycat Girl Scouts with high sales numbers (no pun intended), however, we're hoping to beat Danielle's previous record. Please stop by this Saturday to support her efforts and stock up on your favorite Green Cross products! We look forward to seeing you there!

San Francisco’s salvation from high cannabis prices is The Green Cross

Picture
Before PR teams and CNBC specials, good cannabis and no law enforcement hassles were the two chief attributes to look for in your provider, especially in San Francisco, where the first-ever Department of Justice raid against a dispensary took place. During these firey times, The Green Cross opened its original location in Noe Valley in 2004.

Now 13 years later, we ranked them among the best retail values in the state in the inaugural GreenState Awards. In a world filled with top shelves of eighth-ounces regularly hitting $60 and now even $65 in some cases, The Green Cross’ $43 dollar top shelf and $30 sun-grown eighths are what the market should look like as cannabis prohibition slowly comes to a stop on the tracks. Read more »

San Francisco Just Gave Jeff Sessions' War on Drugs the Middle Finger

Picture
In the wake of California's historic move to legalize recreational marijuana, the city of San Francisco is taking an unprecedented step in criminal justice reform: District Attorney George Gascón announced Wednesday that the city would be retroactively applying the new law to clear thousands of convictions going back to 1975.

Other states that have legalized marijuana allow people with convictions to individually petition to have their convictions reduced or expunged, but the process can be costly and time-consuming. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, nearly 5000 Californians have already petitioned courts just since legalization passed in November. What makes San Francisco's move so unusual is Gascón's decision to dedicate city money and resources to proactively expunge decades of records, rather than passively putting the onus on people who likely have limited resources.  Read more »

Dennis Peron, Early Medical Marijuana Advocate, Dies at 71

Picture
Dennis Peron, who openly dealt marijuana from a “supermarket” in San Francisco in the 1970s before leading a successful campaign to legalize it for medical use in California two decades later, died on Saturday at a San Francisco hospital. He was 71. John Entwistle Jr., his spouse, said the cause was respiratory failure.

Mr. Peron was identified with marijuana all his adult life. Read more »

Medical cannabis laws led to 15% drop in alcohol sales, study shows

With the rise of medical marijuana in the United States, alcohol businesses have taken a hit.

And the two very well may be correlated, according to a new study.

The findings, from researchers at two U.S. universities and one in Peru, found a 15% monthly drop in alcohol sales between 2006 and 2015 in states that have adopted MMJ, Forbes reported. Read more »

Trump stops Israel from exporting medical marijuana, putting future of $1 billion industry in doubt

Picture
Fear of upsetting President Donald Trump prompted Israel to stop its plans to export medical marijuana to the U.S., casting a shadow over an export market for the drug that might have been worth more than $1 billion annually.

According to the Israeli press, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered that plans to begin the export of Israeli medical marijuana be frozen, even as two of the country’s ministers toured leading cannabis farms. Plans to open Israel’s world-leading medical marijuana to export had the backing of the country’s health, agriculture and finance ministries. Read more »

Legal marijuana and restorative justice

Picture
Restorative justice is an emerging trend in the implementation of marijuana’s legalization.  In other words, how can society make up for the damage caused by prohibition? San Francisco is taking steps to clear convictions for marijuana offenses, utilizing authority provided by the passage of Prop 64 which legalized marijuana in California.

Efforts are underway to ensure that areas hardest hit by marijuana law enforcement receive equitable treatment. Especially, when it comes industry participation and awarding licenses for retail outlets.
