Some focus on his prohibitionist past, while others hang on his promise to follow the science. Cue the commentary, much of it fueled by hyperbole and hopeful assumptions. Without a clear policy statement from the Trump administration, we’re left guessing about what comes next. At this time, we only have Cole’s statements during his confirmation hearings, noting that cannabis rescheduling will be “one of my first priorities,” and that he will “look at the science behind it and listen to the experts,” giving the matter “careful consideration after consulting with appropriate personnel within the DEA.” Given Cole’s prior anti-cannabis statements, some expect him to maintain the status quo. Read more » New Alabama cannabis law takes effect July 1. Texas may soon join inAPR.org - The measure taking effect today prohibits the sale of smokable marijuana products to minors. It also limits how consumable cannabis can be sold in stores or online. Vendors of Tetrahydrocannabinol will now have to register with Alabama’s Beverage Control Board and pay excise taxes. This chemical is also known as THC. It’s what makes people high when they use marijuana. House Bill four forty five is broken into two parts. Starting in January of next year, vendors can only sell consumable THC products if they’re licensed by the state. Those items will also have to be in the original packaging. States that prohibit recreational marijuana have also made efforts to regulate the THC market, including Kentucky, Tennessee, as well as Alabama. Texas may be next.
